This Wednesday, join Vespers leader Rev. Mark Ward to reflect on the 56th Anniversary of Jim Reeb’s death which is March 11.
Program: This month we launch the “Anti-Racism Conversation” series. Every 2nd Wed. there will be a facilitated invitation to explore racism and white supremacy as part of the work UUCA is doing to become an anti-racist congregation. This month Kay Aler-Maida will lead with an exploration of the levels of racism using the allegory of a garden. The TED talk by Dr.Camara Jones will be the basis for the session. William Ellery Channing laid out an unorthodox Christian theology in a sermon in 1819, he did something unimaginable: he proudly called it “Unitarianism,” a label that his fellow liberal ministers had shunned. What did Channing preach? How was he able to create respectability for a distinctly different brand of Christianity? Join Rev. Terry Davis as we explore the events that led to Channing’s breakthrough sermon, and what it offered liberal religion then and offers our faith today.

When we talk about imagination, most of the time we seem to be imagining on a large scale. How do we imagine “church” will look after COVID? How do we imagine a non-racist world? But we can also imagine at the personal level. What if we imagined ALL the possibilities for our lives in the next 5 or 10 or 20 years, not just the logical, rational ones? Who could we be?
7PM Program: What is Theology? We describe ourselves as a non-creedal religious community or faith tradition. Join us as we begin a series that explores the theological anchors of UUism. Facilitator: Rev Claudia

NEW Adult Faith Development: Building the World We Dream About; 2nd & 4th Wednesdays at 7pm
“We need to approach racism as it exists in our lives today, and not as an exercise in studying history. We need to share our experiences and viewpoints, and listen with open hearts and minds to each other, especially when we disagree.” -Ruth Alatorre in Bringing Gifts
This UUA curriculum invites us to learn how to develop anti-racist habits and skills that will show us a path to building the beloved community we dream about. We’ll use our own personal histories and UU beliefs and values to understand anti-racism work through frank conversation and reflection about race. Wednesday Thing Vespers, July 15 at 6:30 PM will be hosted by the Anti -Racism Immigration Justice Action Group. They will reflect on our summer theme “Beauty that moves you” and how we can find beauty in the call to racial justice.
The Anti-Racist Immigration Justice Action Group(A-RIJAG) will facilitate an After Vespers Program: TED Talk How Racial Bias works and How to Disrupt it at 7:00pm. This 11 minute video will be followed by open discussion (break out groups if needed).
About the talk: Psychologist Jennifer L. Eberhardt explores how our biases unfairly target Black people at all levels of society — from schools and social media to policing and criminal justice — and discusses we can create points of friction to help us actively interrupt and address this troubling problem.
